AeroVironment introduces ERA (Prolonged Vary Antenna) – sUAS Information

AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aerial vehicle systems (UAS), today announced the launch of its Extended Range Antenna (ERA), the latest addition to AeroVironment’s growing line of network connectivity solutions. The ERA is a lightweight, portable antenna array kit that integrates seamlessly with AeroVironment’s standard RF head antenna to support a variety of missions.

The ERA add-on kit reduces the width of the antenna beam and extends command and control range up to 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) with minimal impact on size, weight and performance (SWAP). Similar to the standard HF head antenna, the ERA is positioned manually. The supplied RF Unit switch allows users to toggle between omnidirectional mode for short-range operations and extended-range mode for longer-range operations. The ERA supports the M1 / 2/5 and M3 / 4/6 Digital Data Link (DDL) operating bands.

By adding the ERA kit to their existing AeroVironment RF antenna, UAS flight operators can instantly expand their operational capabilities and get actionable information on the battlefield at greater distances to maximize their camouflage and safety. When combined with other AeroVironment network connectivity options, the ERA provides a higher level of operational flexibility. This allows teams to easily coordinate command and control transfer from UAS such as Puma LE over greater distances, maximizing the aircraft’s multi-mission capabilities day and night in dynamically changing environments.

“AeroVironment continues to incorporate direct customer and user feedback into our product development investments to meet increasingly complex and dynamic mission requirements,” said Rick Pedigo, vice president of sales and business development for AeroVironment. “Operators benefit not only from the options available in terms of UAS functions, but also from a selection of antenna options that are portable, easy to use and equipped with extended range and multi-mission functions.”

AeroVironment has continued to expand its connectivity solutions and recently announced updates to its LRTA (Long Range Tracking Antenna), which are now offered in two versions to support the DDL frequency bands M1 / 2/5 and M3 / 4/6. AeroVironment’s network connectivity product line includes the functions pDDL (5 km), standard RF antenna (20 km), ERA (40 km) and LRTA (60 km) in the pocket functions M1 / 2/5 and M3 / 4 / 6 bands.
