CommScope introduces new 5G antenna options
To accelerate the adoption of 5G, CommScope recently announced new antenna solutions that will make it easier and faster for cellular operators to build their networks.
C-band antennas – These antennas support three primary upgrade paths: a stand-alone passive or active C-band antenna paradigm; a passive multiband antenna that supports low-band, mid-band and C-band in a single package; and a modular antenna configuration that includes mid-band, low-band full-length arrays and a field replaceable module that supports C-band via a 64T64R active antenna unit (AAU) or a 8T8R passive antenna.
CBRS Antennas – The CommScope CBRS antenna family supports sub-6 GHz bands and offers optimized pattern options. The double beam technology effectively doubles the capacity of the cell site and enables use in six sectors at a lower cost.
360 ° Wind Load Reduction Design – Optimizes wind flow around, above, and below the antenna, helping the operator reduce the cost and negative impact of wind load while getting maximum RF performance. The 360 ° wind load reduction design is implemented across CommScope’s entire global antenna range.
Customizable 700MHz Combiners – These low-band RF combiners target regions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and allow operators to support new bands without adding more base station antennas and adding tower weight. The mechanical dimensions and electrical performance of the customizable 700 MHz combiners can be precisely calibrated to meet specific RF requirements.

The industry is facing a major challenge in deploying C-bands because multiband antennas covering existing LTE bands and new 5G bands were extremely large. Operators are looking for solutions that will reduce the size of a multiband antenna for C-band site upgrades.
