L3Harris Depends on NXTCOMM Protection to Present Electronically Controllable Antenna; Quote from Chris Aebli
L3Harris Technologies has selected NXT Communications’ Defense Unit to provide an electronically steerable antenna designed to aid mobile connectivity between Department of Defense war fighters.
NXTCOMM Defense’s small form factor ESA has no moving parts and is designed to operate in geosynchronous, low, medium and high Earth orbit in various satellites, NXTCOMM said Friday.
Chris Aebli, president of L3Harris’ global communications systems unit, said ESA is suitable for both Manpack and Flyaway terminals and complements the company’s Very Small Aperture Terminal platform for satellite communications.
L3Harris’ VSAT offerings are designed for beyond line of sight communication for rear logistical support, as well as to identify and mitigate interference. Hawkeye III Lite, Shadow Ku-Band Plat Panel and Panther II are some of the products from the VSAT portfolio.
David Horton, CEO of NXTCOMM, said the company will work with L3Harris to improve soldier connectivity and situational awareness through flat panel antenna technology.
The first product deliveries are expected to take place in the first quarter of 2022.
In June 2020, NXTCOMM presented the first ESA drafts developed with the help of the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
The company signed a capacity agreement with Eutelsat Communications to support EUTELSAT 117 West A’s over-the-air testing of the proprietary flat panel display terminal, which enables high-performance Ku-band coverage.
