Retired radio system for public works

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – Central Dakota Communication’s radio equipment will be given a second life with a new department as part of a nationwide radio upgrade for first responders.

As portable radios are taken out of service year round, they are being turned over to the Bismarck and Mandan Public Works Department for second hand use.

Communications director Mike Dannenfelzer says the new radios will enable better communication within departments.

“These systems that were used for public safety are better covered than a single location that public works may have used. So if you give them a simulcast site, their coverage will go a long way, ”said Dannenfelzer.

First responders in Burleigh and Morton counties are expected to upgrade radios by the end of the summer.

Hopefully by the end of the year CenCom will have the old radios in the Bismarck and Mandan departments.
