Samsung introduces new 5G radio with built-in antennas – Samsung Newsroom Germany

Samsung’s new solution ensures greater deployment efficiency in a compact form factor
One Antenna Radio aims to accelerate the adoption of 5G

Samsung Electronics today unveiled a new two-way radio designed to help wireless operators overcome the challenges they face in deploying 5G networks. The new One Antenna Radio announced at “Samsung Networks: Redefined” has integrated antennas and offers operators the opportunity to simplify and accelerate 5G installations by using a 3.5 GHz massive MIMO radio with passive low-band radio. and midband antennas into a single form factor.

While the operators continue to expand their 5G coverage, the space and space restrictions at locations and on towers represent a central challenge for them. The all-in-one radio from Samsung meets various environmental and location requirements – simplifies installation, saves space and reduces operating costs for operators. The new solution will become part of Samsung’s Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio in early 2022 and will initially target the European market.

The main advantages of the One Antenna Radio from Samsung are:

  • Website simplification: The optimized solution uses compact hardware to blend in with a community environment and reduces cable and hardware elements to minimize visual impact in densely populated urban areas.
  • Simplified installation: Deployment is simplified because radios and multiple antennas do not need to be installed and connected separately, which speeds installation and reduces labor costs.
  • OPEX savings: The smaller footprint on construction sites or towers and the smaller footprint enable operators to save costs, including rental and maintenance costs.

“We are proud to introduce our One Antenna Radio, which offers industry-leading performance designed for a variety of environments,” said Wonil Roh, senior vice president and head of product strategy, Networks Business, Samsung Electronics. “Recognizing that assembly hardware, cabling, time and space restrictions for the crew represent a challenge for most operators, we have developed a solution to address this problem and to expand the limits of use.”

Samsung is pioneering the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios, and core. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung is driving the industry with its market-leading product portfolio from fully virtualized RAN and Core to private network solutions and AI-supported automation tools to advance 5G networks. The company currently provides network solutions to wireless operators that provide connectivity to hundreds of millions of users around the world.
