ThinKom solutions has developed a new variant of its VICTS Aero satellite communication antenna that, according to the company, allows for more flexible installation options. ThinKom announced the product variant on Tuesday, targeting the BLOS (Government and Military Beyond-Line-of-Sight) satellite communications markets.

VICTS is ThinKom’s patented phased array technology and stands for Continuous Transversal Stub with variable inclination. The new variant integrates the VICTS antenna, the antenna control unit and the power supply electronics in a single package with a small footprint and a small footprint. The company said this eliminates the need for a separate, line-replaceable unit for the antenna control unit / power supply. The antenna measures less than 9 cm in total height.

Bill Milroy, chairman and CTO of ThinKom Solutions, said this design represents the company’s strategy to become the preferred choice for satellite antennas for smaller volume, low power platforms.

“In some cases, [the integrated antenna unit] facilitates fully embedded installations and completely eliminates the external radome. The absence of a visible radome uniquely enables extremely reliable, high bandwidth BLOS connectivity on sensitive and survivable specialty aircraft and platforms with high survivability. The system fully supports the emission characteristics with low probability of detection and low probability of interception, ”commented Milroy.
