Zhen Ding, Flexium are happy about sturdy Apple orders for antenna modules
Taiwan-based flexible circuit board specialists Zhen Ding Technology and Flexium Interconnect will both significantly increase revenues from shipping antenna modules for Apple devices in 2021, according to industry sources.
Zhen Ding estimates that its sales quota for flexible antenna modules will increase to double-digit levels in 2021, as the company also entered the supply chain for high-end LCP (liquid crystal polymer) antenna solutions for iPhones after starting shipping such solutions for Apple Watch products, the sources said.
Flexium, already a supplier of MPI antenna modules (modified polyimide) for Apple devices, will also be delivering LCP antenna boards for new iPhones in the second half of the year. The company has added new antenna board capacity and is expected to expand the antenna business to over 25% of its sales in 2021, the sources added.
Apple is increasingly reliant on Zhen Ding and Flexium to supply MPI and LCP antenna modules for iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook and iPad applications as both partners continue to be leaders in production scale, technology, yield rates and cost control and their Japanese Competitors are have shifted business focus to other niche applications, the sources said. Both manufacturers are expected to get more orders from the U.S. supplier in competition with Japan’s Murata and China’s DSBJ, the sources added.
Flexible LCP and MPI boards involve high number of layers and great processing difficulties, and will offer suppliers higher ASP and profitability, the sources said.
